Winter slowdown is here so all I have is a keyboard to show off...

Glass in the Door!

My window pane came in for the door so I got that finished up. It also got new coat of paint yesterday because it looked a little beat up when it was hung. The braces on the inside will come out when the glazing sets up.

The video below (previous post) is the musical equivalent of building and then finally moving into a house built with your own hands. As I imagine it to be that is...

It's a Porch!

I'm real happy with how the porch turned out. The ceiling needs completed but it can wait until  the wiring is in and the type of light fixture will be used. The window for the door is due in on Wednesday. Take a look...

My camera isn't functioning properly, it won't focus on close-ups so the next pic is best I could get of the chiseled section left of the door. It's the same as the trim to the right of the window shown above.

Porch Trim

Today was a drizzly rainy day but not for the porch. I got the trim up except for one piece which needed chiseled on one side. It will act as  trim and siding in one piece, trim paint is on and the siding paint will go on tomorrow.

There were many times during this build where things got frustrating due to setbacks like bad cuts, poor ordering, timing, etc. Today though I really thought about what I'm doing and it feels really good to see the progress. When I'm working on this it doesn't feel like work but something I like doing. When I don't know what I'm doing I feel like God Himself is guiding my hand. I'm so thankful.

More Trim

Had time today to cut and paint the trim for the door and window. I should get that on tomorrow and then cut and paint the siding. Here's the not so exciting pic...

Hinged and Latched

Ladies and gentleman I have a door that opens and closes very nicely. Still need to glaze in a window and put one more coat of paint and it's good to go. In the mean time I'll trim and side the porch to finish that up.

Door Jamb

Unexpectedly had some time to work on the house today. Door jamb is plumb and level and ready to accept the door as soon the hinges are chiseled in.

Subaru Plug

It got bad real quick last night. I beat the road crews home from work in the Impreza, it cut thru the snow like a snow machine. I highly recommend getting one!

A Door... Almost

It was a pretty good day not counting the gusty cold wind. 16 people braved the weather to check out my never ending project. Thanks to all who came and I hope you liked my little house.

The door jamb is cut but not fastened in place. Don't let the picture fool you, it's not quite ready yet...

A Porch

I got the decking on today and hope to get the door jamb in tomorrow. I'll let the deck weather for a bit and then paint it grey to match the roof.

Remember if you want to check it out in person you are welcome to stop by any time after 12 noon Sunday Nov. 10

...in the last 5 days

A lot of little things happened in the past week. Mostly emptied my pockets. I purchased my door jams and door hardware. I got the knob and hinges in Beaver at Fischer Hardware. Don and Wayne were great down there and they lent me a jig to drill the holes.

The outside of the door also got three coats of paint, I think it will look great. I also picked up decking for the porch.

A special shout out to Priscilla and Jack who wanted to get me something for the house. It's a 5x7 rug that I had my eye on for awhile. It's super nice and will go in the "great room". It will now be officially referred to as "Priscilla's rug". They are very special people to me and can't thank them enough!

Also, this Sunday if you want to check the house out stop by after 12 noon. It's kind of unorganized and I'll be working on projects but I wanted to set aside some time for any one who's interested to come see.

Teachable Moment

To all the small house bloggers who weren't afraid to post your mistakes; I thank you. To those considering building your own little house... here is one of my mistakes. I ordered my own roofing. May I suggest before ordering metal roofing please talk to someone who has done it before or let the person who will do it for you order the material.

Jim was here again and will have to come back - not his fault. We did get some Z pieces up that will hold the cap but I need to order new cap. So another week or two?

The Top has a Bottom!

The cedar went up so quick! Just needs some paint touch up over the screw holes. Next up will have to be getting the door in so I can figure out the siding on the porch.

All pictures were taken from the back yard.

To the Top!

Finally finished the Hardy siding (other than final trim pieces). I've got the cedar cut with first coat of paint on and hope to get that on in between the rain drops tomorrow.

Windy Weather

It's been a bit blustery but I managed to get 2 rows up. Another week of vacation would be nice to move things along.

Inside the little house there were no noticeable drafts and that's without insulation and house wrap as a door. I'm confident it's wrapped up pretty tight. Now if only the roof could get finished up...

Vacation II is over

It's been a long week and today I'm going to try and get a few pieces up on the peak to get it started. I'm glad most of it is up I just wish it didn't take so long.

I wanted to give a shout out to a blog I've been following, she is at the pre-project stage and writes about ideas for tiny houses and her personal journey. You can find it here and maybe a pic of my house in the making... http://mytinyhousedream.blogspot.com/2013/10/comments-are-bloggers-paycheck.html

My roof piece is in so hopefully that will get done this week. I'm hoping!

Two pieces are in place. Doesn't seem like much but I did some prep for the remaining rows, and cleaned out the car a little.

Wall no. 3 to the Top

Another side finished except the top row needs trimmed out just like the other side. The cold rain wasn't very helpful but the end is in sight.

Next step I'll be putting siding above the windows on the peak. Below the windows and on the porch I'll be using cedar siding.

Close to the Top

A few more pieces are needed to finish the last row and then on to the last wall. Once all the siding is up I'll do the trim on both sides.

Hunters moon tonight, I missed the partial eclipse.

ER trip and rain

Yesterday morning  about 3 a.m. I got up and stubbed and sliced the tip of my small toe. Thank me for no pics. Thought for sure it would need stitched up so I went to the er and luckily the (flap) sealed back up pretty good and opted for no stitches.

The last two days had periods of rain but I did manage to make some progress in between (and sometimes in) the rain.

Also had a visitor Sonny from church, thanks for stopping by. It's neat to see the reaction of people when they see it for the first time. Speaking of which I was shooting for a little "open house" Sunday but I'm just not going to be ready for that. Maybe November 9th or 10th.

To the Top

This side needs some cosmetic work and the top trimmed but it's off to finish the other side for now. Supposed to rain tomorrow but hopefully I can get something done.
